Tour operators high on Colorado
Los Angeles, New York and Orlando are perennial hot spots but other areas such as Alaska and Colorado are also getting attention, says the US Tour Operators Association (USTOA).
“Because of the year-round opportunities there for leisure, Colorado is very popular,” said Bob Whitley, president of USTOA.
Tour operators rated Colorado in a tie with California and Alaska as the stop domestic destinations.
Colorado is best known for winter sports but some ski resorts are now open year-round for recreation such as mountain biking, said John Metzger, spokesman for the Colorado Office of Economic Development. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and mountain-climbing are also popular in the off-season.
“We even have a wine country now — yet another summer attraction,” said Mr Metzger.
