Following Friday’s board meeting, Tourism Australia has announced the appointment of Nick Baker [pictured right at the recent ATE 2007] to the role of Executive General Manager (EGM) Marketing, based in Sydney.

Tourism Australia Managing Director, Geoff Buckley said the appointment of Nick Baker would be critical to the ongoing roll out of the organisation’s global marketing strategy, adding, “We have a global campaign which is really starting to gain momentum in Australia ’s key international tourism markets.”

Geoff said. “And we’re looking forward to having someone of Nick’s calibre on board to ensure that Australia ’s tourism marketing efforts continue to cut through in the competitive international marketplace.”

“The emphasis of Nick’s role will be to manage Tourism Australia ’s global marketing operations, including the global campaign, business and major events, trade events along with responsibility for our domestic marketing and Australian experiences development for all markets.”

Geoff said, “Nick is very well known within the tourism industry and we are confident of his capacity to drive Tourism Australia ’s efforts to increase yield and dispersal from international and domestic travellers”.

Nick joins Tourism Australia after 10 years with Voyages Hotels and Resorts as Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing, where he has been responsible for developing and driving the strong positioning of the Voyages brand and properties to consumers both in Australia and internationally.

Nick said, “The last 10 years at Voyages have been a fantastic journey for me and I’ve been lucky to work with some of the most unique properties in Australia.”

“I am now looking forward to putting this experience and passion towards promoting the whole of Australia .”

Commenting on the appointment, Voyages Chief Executive Chris Tallent said it was both a wonderful opportunity and a great honour for Nick to have been selected, adding, “After the success Nick has had in developing the Voyages brand as the leader of high quality Australian experiential resort experiences, there is no doubt he will add tremendous value to the continued strengthening of Brand Australia”.

Nick will take up the position with Tourism Australia in August.

Geoff added that the appointment of Nick to the EGM Marketing role would be complemented by the two other recent appointments of internal candidates to executive roles.

These include the appointment of Rachel Crowley, current PR Manager Americas, to the role of General Manager Corporate Communications, and Lawrence Franklin, who has headed up the Market Insights unit, to General Manager Strategy and Insights.

This completes the recruitment of new executive roles for Tourism Australia as a result of recent changes to the Executive including the appointment of the two EGM International roles with Richard Beere responsible for the Eastern markets and Michael Londregan the Western markets.
