Tourism Australia, Yatra.com team up for cricket travel packages
Tourism Australia has joined forces with major Indian online travel agent Yatra.com to promote Australian sports tourism packages to the Indian market leading up to the 2015 Cricket World Cup Down Under.
The partnership will see a specially curated selection of travel packages marketed in India focusing on Australian domestic cricket and during the World Cup, showcasing a range of destinations
"Cricket is one of the most closely followed sports in the country and attracts tremendous attention. With the Indian cricket team setting up base in Australia for nearly four months, we have at hand a unique opportunity for Indian cricket enthusiasts to plan a holiday Down Under alongside the games," said Nishant Kashikar, country manager for India and the Gulf at Tourism Australia.
Yatra.com president Sharat Dhall also added: "We are delighted to partner with Tourism Australia as we head into a long and exciting cricket season down under culminating with the World Cup. Our packages have been carefully designed to capture the ‘Aussie’ experience that will also go a long way in making the entire trip very eventful.
Tourism Australia is also collaborating with Star Sports, which is the official TV broadcaster in India for Australian league cricket and the World Cup tournament to market the Australian experience to potential Indian travellers.
Leisure travel from India to Australia has increased by 23% in the last year to September 2014, and tourism leaders expect a further boost during the first half of 2015 fueled by World Cup fever in the world’s largest cricketing nation.
