Tourist critical after being stabbed on New York subway
A 21-year-old Texas tourist was sitting in a subway car in Harlem when an assailant suddenly thrust a knife into his chest, critically wounding him.
Police said the tourist, Christopher McCarthy, thought at first that he had been punched. The assailant gave no warning that he was about to stand up and stab the victim.
Police were doing an intensive search for the attacker who got off the train soon after the incident. Police said there was no motive such as robbery.
The stabbing victim was with his girlfriend, Ganda Krisananuwatara, on the second day of a planned two-week vacation.
“Everyone was so excited. They told me to take pictures — now I’ll have the most terrible story when I get back,” she said.
Mr Carthy’s condition was listed as critical but doctors expected him to survive.
