Tourist survives after driving rental car over Hawaii cliff
A tourist is recovering after sustaining injuries when he drove his rental car off a 60-feet cliff in Hawaii.
A 27-year old Canadian is thought to have taken a wrong turn in the Jeep in the South Point area of the Big Island.
Luckily the early morning incident was spotted and help arrived quickly as he was being swept out to sea.
He was taken to hospital with cuts and mild hypothermia.
The fire department said he was lucky to survive after initially crashing upside down on rocks.
After prizing open the passenger door of the Jeep, the tourist ‘‘fell immediately in the water’ and was swept out to sea.
Also on the Big Island there were two separate incidents last year of tourists driving off a jetty in Honokohau due to erroneous GPS directions.
