Tourists amongst those killed in deadly earthquake
Tourists to the Chinese southwest province of Sichuan are being advised to contact their tour operator after it was struck by an earthquake on Tuesday.
Eight tourists are reported to be among the 19 killed by the 6.5-magnitude earthquake. Around 45,000 holidaymakers have been evacuated, according to the local government, and a further 1,000 tourists are waiting to leave.
Affected areas include Juizhaigou town and the Jiuzhai Valley National Park.
The Foreign Office said: "If you’re planning to travel to the affected area, you should check local reports and contact your tour operator for further information."
Most of the deaths and 250 injuries were in Zhangzha township, close to the Jiuzhaigou nature reserve, which is a popular beauty spot.
