Tourists die in India houseboat fire
Three Bangladeshi tourists are dead after a large fire swept through several houseboats on a popular lake in Srinagar, Kashmir.
Several other occupants of adjacent houseboats had to be rescued, according to Kashmir’s Srinagar district police.
The fire gutted at least five Lake Dal houseboats.
The three tourists from Bangladesh were named as Anindaya Kowshal, Das Gupta, and Mohammad Moinud.
“Three dead while eight people were rescued after several houseboats gutted in Dal Lake,” Jammu and Kashmir police posted.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said: I have directed the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons.”
The fire ripped through the houseboats in the early hours of Saturday.
The blaze also damaged some huts and neighbouring lakeside houses.
