Tourists ignore Fiji Travel Advisories
It is very much business as usual in the majority of Fiji’s resorts, islands and even in Nadi, all located well away from the coup hotspot of Suva.
With both the Australia and New Zealand Government’s upgrading their warning against Australians travelling to Fiji, amid growing fears of an imminent coup, industry leaders believe that the warning will have little effect on tourism to the region.
Chris Brown, MD of Australia’s Tourism and Transport Forum Australia said that what the warning did was highlight Australia’s stable political environment, but that he thought that it would probably have little impact on tourism to the Pacific region, adding, “Fiji has had a lot of experience with problems like this, and tourism to the region has always recovered”.
He said, “Fiji has been one of the island booms, with numerous five-star resorts popping up in the past five years that have been very popular and if there is any short-term loss it will only be short-term.”
It is reported that airline are not experiencing cancellations and are operating services to Nadi as normal.
