Tourists injured in Lombok helicopter crash
Three tourists and a pilot had a lucky escape after their tour helicopter crashed just metres before it was due to land at Lombok International Airport in Indonesia.
The chopper went down just short of the airport’s perimetre fence near Kawo village in Central Lombok.
Passengers Nicholas Alexander from the UK and Donoso Lilo from Chile suffered only minor injuries but a third tourist from Germany was reported to have sustained a broken leg.
The pilot, Capt. Kustiyadi only had minor injuries.
Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Purnama said the pilot had reported engine problems just seconds earlier before it crash landed.
The helicopter was returning to Lombok after a tour of Labuan Bajo in Flores, which is the gateway to the Komodo National Park.
The chopper is owned by Bali-based PT Carpediem Air which operates the Fly Bali aerial tour brand.
The Air Transportation Directorate General is investigating the cause.
