Mediterranean holiday specialist Icon Holidays is now offering the ultimate Greek island holiday – a stay in a beautifully renovated fisherman’s cottage on the harbour-front in the Crete village of Makrigialos.

Crete is the largest of all of the Greek islands and this location in the southern part of Crete is ideal for a stay of seven days or more.

Makrigialos offers a row of five white-painted sandstone cottages with cobalt blue doors and window boxes of brightly-coloured geraniums surrounded by streets lined with tamarind trees. Some of the houses are divided into two separate apartments  and each is authentically furnished with Greek antiques and paintings.

They are available for rental year-round at prices ranging from $800 per week. The location is ideal for people wanting to explore all of the attractions that this beautiful island has to offer with a rental car, like the Samaria Gorge or the World War II Battle of Crete grave sites, the fascinating Minoan sites of Knossos and Phaestos, hiking in the nearby hills and dining in the local tavernas.

For large families or  groups of friends, Icon Holidays offers the option of renting the de luxe Villa Casa dei Mezzo which will accommodate six people. It has its own pool and overlooks the village of Makrigialos and fishing boats bobbing on the Libyan Sea. The prices for the Villa start from $8,800, per week.

Bookings  for either property can be combined with fast ferry transfers or flights from the mainland, car rental and escorted private sightseeing tours.
