Travel agent pay bucks trend
Travel agents and pilots have had one of the lowest drops in living standards of all professions according to research by the GMB union.
The value of earnings fell by at least 25% in 11 occupations since 2007 including chartered surveyors, financial technicians, dancers, choreographers and driving instructors.
While travel agents, pilots, teachers, florists, rail staff and librarians had the smallest drop of less than 5%.
The average drop in living standards for full-time workers in 277 occupations was 5.9%, when wage rises were compared to inflation.
These figures are from a new analysis by GMB of official earnings data for occupations.
Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary said, “These figures show that the Government’s strategy for an economic recovery is in tatters as living standards in the UK drop by 5.9%.”
What do you make of the GMB research? Do you think travel agents have fared better than other professions?
