Travel alert as heatwave hits parts of Europe
The Foreign Office has issued travel alerts for parts of Europe warning holidaymakers of a heatwave.
It says extreme temperatures in France and Italy are expected in the last week of June.
Daytime temperatures are set to reach over 40 ºC and overnight temperatures over 20 ºC in parts of France.
French authorities have issued advice on sensible precautions to take.
They have put 78 of 101 French departments on heatwave alert, schools have closed and trains are operating a slower service.
Traffic restrictions have been put in place in Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Grenoble
With the combination of heat and humidity, temperatures in Paris could feel as high as 47 ºC .
Visitors are advised to drink water regularly and avoid strenuous activity and alcohol.
