Travel disruption expected as new French strikes begin
Travellers have been warned of major disruption as mass French strikes return.
Unions say most rail and metro stations are closed.
Eurostar and P&O Ferries have warned of delays today.
Unions organised mass strikes across France over the government’s proposed pension changes.
It is the sixth major French strike this year.
Eurostar said it is operating a limited timetable on Tuesday and Wednesday and passengers should check their service is still running before travelling.
P&O Ferries said there is ‘some disruption’ to services.
Strikers are currently blockading several oil refineries.
Police estimate up to 1.4 million people will take part in protests today and tomorrow.
Air travel could also be hard hit by the French strikes.
Easyjet and Ryanair said flight cancellations and delays are likely due to possible air traffic control walkouts
Ryanair said passengers would be ‘notified as soon as possible’ of any cancelled services.
French transport minister Clement Beaune acknowledged today will be ‘a real hassle’ for anyone travelling.
