Travel insurance website launches MERS information service
As a third case of the MERS virus is confirmed in the US, travel insurance comparison website Squaremouth has launched a MERS travel insurance information service.
The Florida based site has published a webpage detailing the coverage options related to MERS risk from insurers.
It also lists US airports that have issued MERS advisories and a comprehensive FAQ section for travelers.
"We wanted to be proactive with this information and have it readily available for our customers," said Squaremouth Marketing Manager Megan Singh.
"At this point, there are still more questions than answers, but travelers can rest assured that as information becomes available, it can be found here."
The MERS outbreak is not yet considered a public health emergency but international gateway airports in the US have already posted warnings and opened quarantine rooms for suspected cases.
Squaremouth will update the MERS and travel insurance information center webpage as more information is released.
It said most travel insurance policies still cover a traveler who contracts the MERS virus, but this may change as risk assessments are continually being carried out by individual insurers.
Over the weekend, a third US case of the Middle East virus came to light, when a business associate of the first confirmed US MERS case tested positive but has shown no signs of sickness.
CDC officials confirmed there was ‘close contact’ between the two men during two face-to-face business meetings.
