Travel manager takes on Everest for charity
Brisbane personal travel manager Andrea Turner is about to climb Mt Everest to have her hair shaved off in support of the Leukaemia Foundations’ World’s Highest Shave.
A TravelManagers’ representative of Windsor in Brisbane, Turner says she has lost family members "and a dear friend" to both leukaemia and cancer.
"I understand the terrible impact and effect it has not only on them but their families also. The treatment is so unforgiving both physically and emotionally.
"I hate the cold and have long hair so trekking for two weeks in freezing conditions to the Everest Base Camp to shave my head, what better way to get people’s attention and fundraise for this great cause," she said.
The Leukaemia Foundation has teamed up with Getaway Trekking and Adventures to organise the world’s highest shave, a 16-day trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and finally to Kala Pattar at 5,515 metres where participants will shave their head.
Turner is climbing as part of a 20-person team and has personally committed to raise $2,000. All funds raised will go directly to research and provide support and services to people living with leukaemia.
