Travel restrictions imposed in South Australia after new Covid-19 cluster
South Australia has reintroduced restrictions after a new Covid-19 cluster was discovered in North Adelaide.
State Premier Steven Marshall said inbound international flights to Adelaide have been halted until the end of the week
Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said 17 new cases were reported in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
She said some of the cases are linked to a hotel used for quarantining.
"We are facing our biggest test to-date," Marshall said.
"We must act swiftly and decisively to stay ahead of the game."
There are currently 34 active cases in South Australia which includes some imported cases of repatriated travellers from overseas.
Marshall announced a variety of restrictions across the state including the closure of gyms and sports events, funerals limited to 50 people, and church services capped at 100.
Pubs, clubs and restaurants are limited to 100 people with no stand-up drinking allowed.
Marshall urged people to work from home where possible
"What we are facing is, indeed, a second wave, but we haven’t got the second wave yet. We are in very, very early days," Professor Spurrier said.
South Australia shares a border with all the mainland states, and some are being urged to restrict inter-state travel again.
