Travel staff under pressure to cut corners
Almost half of workers in the transport and travel industries – and that includes travel agents, tour operators and airline workers – feel they are under pressure to “cut corners” in their job, according to a survey.
The Financial Times today reports that the survey, conducted by BMRB International, also reveals that many workers “feel unable to report concerns about stress, take days off sick to avoid work, and do not have a good relationship with their boss”.
The survey revealed that 46% of people in travel and transport thought they were being forced to cut corners – a higher proportion than in any other sector of industry.
A quarter of the 2,000 workers surveyed said they dread going to work each day, 15% admitted faking sickness to get time off, while only a half said they have a good relationship with their manager, compared with a national average of about two thirds.
