Monday’s markets see industry shares roar ahead

Monday was a very positive day for travel industry shares as London’s equity markets pushed ahead.

The FTSE 100 index gained 1.3 per cent in value, adding 53.3 points for a 4074.8 close, while the FTSE 250 also did well and added 64.4 points to close at 5051.6. Dealers were not particularly busy, with a fairly run-of-the-mill 2.4 billion shares changing hands.

Among the airlines, British Airways added 6.75p to close at 167.75p, EasyJet gained 5p to end the day at 247p, and Ryanair put on 4.5p to close at 410.5p.

In the online sector, ebookers pushed ahead 10p to end the day at 481p, while Lastminute.com gained half a penny to close at 179.5p. First Choice also put on half a penny to end the day at 115p, and MyTravel followed suit, moving ahead 1.75p to close at 23.75p.
