Tuesday trading sees shares in low-cost carriers push ahead
Tuesday’s session on London’s equity markets saw mixed fortunes for travel shares, on a day when the main indices fell back once again. The FTSE 100 index lost ground, shedding 27 points to close at 4060.9, while the broader-based FTSE 250 index fared even worse, dropping 71.6 points to close at 4932.6.
The no-frills carriers had a good day; EasyJet gained 8p for a 233.5p finish, while its rival Ryanair added 6p to close at 416.5p. British Airways, by way of contrast, dropped 5.5pp to close at 153p.
Online retailers were subject to profit taking after several positive days; ebookers fell back 15p to close at 407.5p and lastminute.com dropped 5.25p for a 154.75p close. First Choice Holidays lost 5.5p to close at 112p, while MyTravel was static at 20.25p.
