Shares in no-frills carriers led the way for travel and tourism shares yesterday despite a rather flat showing on London’s main stock indices. The FTSE 100 index gained 9.2 points to close at 4390.6, while the FTSE 250 fell back 13.1 points to end the day at 6044.3. Ryanair surprised many by adding more than 20p to close at 338.94 as dealers decided things could have been worse for the carrier in terms of yesterday’s EC ruling. Easyjet also had a good day, gaining 13.5p to end the day at 333.5p, after asserting that the Ryanair decision was good news for no-frills carriers in general.
