There were few major movements for travel industry shares on a day that saw blue chip stocks hold their ground while smaller companies fell back.

The FTSE 100 index gained 0.1 per cent of its value, adding 3.3 points to close at 4345.1, while the broader-based FTSE 250 dropped 40 points to 5758.3 – a decline of 0.8 per cent.

It was one of the quietest days of recent weeks, with dealers trading just 2.6 billion shares.
