There were mixed fortunes for travel industry shares yesterday as London’s equity markets slumped on profit-taking by dealers.

The benchmark FTSE 100 index fell by 0.7% of its value, dropping 28.2 points to 4334.1, while the broader-based FTSE 250 managed top make a small gain, adding 4.7 points to close at 5791.5.

It was one of the busiest days in recent weeks, with 3.2 billion shares traded before the 6pm count.
