Travelers ‘dogged’ by pets

Friday, 05 Sep, 2006 0

A survey shows travelers often take shorter trips or even avoid vacations because of their pets, leading TripAdvisor to conclude that airlines and hotels need to do more for pet-owners.

TripAdvisor’s survey showed about half of the travelers in the poll say they take their animals with them to spend time with them.

Another 15% say they bring their pets because they get upset when left alone.

Other findings:

  • Thirteen percent of respondents admitted their pets prevented them from taking vacations.

  • More than a third of travelers would pay more for pet-friendly accommodations.

  • About 23% said they stayed only at animal-amiable lodging places.

  • Almost 30% admitted taking fewer vacations so they would not be away from their animals.

  • More than 38% admitted taking shorter vacations because of pets.

More than half of the travelers said hotels need to do more for pet-owners.

The biggest concern of travelers when it comes to taking pets: the stresses of air travel.
