Travellers face “heightened risk” of terror attacks in Indonesia
The Foreign Office has issued a revised alert against the possibility of terrorist attacks against foreign tourists in Indonesia over Christmas and the new year.
The FO’s travel advice has been amended to say that there is a “heightened risk” of attacks in the lead up to and during the Christmas and new year period.
The FO warns: “These could occur at any time, anywhere in Indonesia and could be directed against locations frequented by foreigners.”
The latest warning comes two years after terrorist bombings in Bali.
In the amended travel advice, the FO says: “There remains a high threat from terrorism in Indonesia. We continue to receive reports that terrorists in Indonesia are planning further attacks.”
While the FO does not advise against travel to the country, it adds: “Terrorists have shown in previous attacks, like the attack on the Australian embassy and the Bali bombings that they have the means and the motivation to carry out successful attacks.”
