Travelodge announces multi-million pound investment
Travelodge has announced a £223 million investment this year and plans to open 14 new hotels including two in Spain.
The budget hotel chain said the cash investment will help fuel growth and strengthen the brand.
The UK locations include four properties in London (Bethnal Green, Hounslow, Vauxhall and Walthamstow), Liverpool, Cambridge, Aylesbury, Southport, Kings Lynn, Sittingbourne, Manchester and Chertsey.
In Spain, one Travelodge will be in Barcelona and one in Madrid.
Travelodge claims 420 jobs will be created and £57 million will also be spent on refurbishment across the rest of the estate.
The hotel group has also created a new room concept designed by its customers complete with a luxurious bed and ‘state of the art’ mattress.
Feedback from Travelodge customers stated they wanted an inviting, functional, warm, relaxing environment, with the main focus of the room being an extremely comfortable bed.
By autumn 2014, more than 80% of Travelodge’s estate will incorporate the new room design.
Travelodge is also investing over £12 million in digital and online marketing this year. As well as over a million pounds on a website refresh later this year.
£10 million will be spend on maintenance.
Grant Hearn, Travelodge CEO said: "Now that we have a solid financial foundation in place, this year, the Travelodge brand will benefit from a £223 million investment.
"As part of this year’s investment we have worked with our customers to create a new Travelodge room which offers more comfort, quality and style. The hero of our new room is a luxurious bed that is normally found in high end hotels."
