The management of Fiji’s Treasure Island Resort and Bounty Island Resort has announced its intention to absorb the three per cent revenue tax emanating from the Fiji government’s soon to be implemented new taxation system.
General Manager Graeme Back said the move was intended to allay any confusion arising from the new tax which will take effect on 01 June 2006.
“There has been too much confusion over the new tax and we have decided to absorb the three per cent from 01 April 2006 until 31 March 2007.
“The main reasoning behind our decision is to alleviate much of the uncertainty which the new tax seems to be causing travel operators.
This move is also intended to kick start Fiji’s delayed 2006 selling season,” he said.
Announced as part of the Fiji government budget handed down on 04 November 2005, the tax, originally proposed as a bed tax, surprised the tourism industry which had been working in close consultation with the Ministry of Tourism on the possible implementation of a new tourist tax system in 2007.
