TripAdvisor adds video uploads

Saturday, 08 Mar, 2007 0

Online global travel community TripAdvisor has started allowing consumers and travel companies to upload 10-minute holiday video clips.

‘Ring of Kerry,’ a travel memoir of Ireland uploaded by Minnesota-based TripAdvisor traveller “sdcash,” has become the second most popular video on the site.

TripAdvisor also allows travel companies to showcase their offerings by uploading videos.

Video has been integrated into nearly every facet of TripAdvisor, with the largest percentage of activity in the destination category, accounting for more than 55% of uploads.

The attractions, restaurants and hotels categories have seen large amounts of early activity, according to TripAdvisor. Hotels can upload their own promotional videos, helping users make their accommodation choices.

Senior vice-president of marketing Christine Petersen said: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth a million. Video can convey so much emotion so quickly.

“We’re thrilled to offer the elegance of the written word, the power of candid photos and now the punch of video, so that whatever the experience, our travellers and the hospitality industry alike can share their information most effectively.”

Videos can be uploaded at http://www.tripadvisor.com/PostVideo.
