Tripadvisor discontinues subscription service
Tripadvisor is closing down the Tripadvisor Plus subscription service less than three years after it was established.
It officially launched in summer 2021 with a $99 annual membership fee giving discounted rates and various perks for hotel and car rental bookings.
“Tripadvisor Plus was born out of our culture of innovation, and we now have a deeper understanding of our community’s preferences around benefits and rewards,” the company said.
“Now we are better equipped than ever to refine our approach to membership. We are grateful to all the Plus subscribers.”
A short time after it officially launched the travel subscription service moved to a cashback model.
CEO Matt Goldberg recently said the company conducted a strategic overview of the service which was started by previous CEO, Steve Kaufer.
