TripAdvisor snaps up vacation rental site HouseTrip

TripAdvisor has acquired UK-based HouseTrip for an undisclosed sum.

According to reports, HouseTrip will continue to operate as a brand but its featured properties will be shared across TripAdvisor’s rental sites, which include FlipKey, HolidayLettings and VacationHomeRentals.

HouseTrip was founded in 2009 and has offices in London, Lausanne and Lisbon.

In September 2014, a major restructure of the group saw around 30% of its staff laid off.

Co-founders Arnaud Bertrand and Junjun Chen stepped down at that time and were replaced by the current chief operating officer George Hadjigeorgiou.

Since being set up, HouseTrip has received more than $60 million in funding from venture capital companies Index Ventures, Balderton Capital and Accel Partners.
