Tropical Storm Beryl is downgraded, but could pick up speed
Tropical Storm Beryl has disintegrated over the Caribbean, although there are warnings from the National Hurricane Centre that she could gain strength on approach to the Bahamas.
Meanwhile, Tropical storm Chris, which formed off the North Carolina coast on Sunday is forecast to become a hurricane today.
Remnants of Beryl are set to bring heavy rain to Puerto Rico, which is still struggling after last year’s devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. About 7,000 houses and businesses in Puerto Rico still lack power and over 4,600 people died in the storm.
A state of emergency was declared in Dominica at 4pm local time on Sunday and will remain in effect until 4pm today, unless otherwise lifted, the Foreign Office said.
Other islands, such as Barbados and St Lucia are expecting heavy rainfall and high winds.
