Trump Hotels slammed for selling White House themed merchandise
Donald Trump has got embroiled in yet more allegations of monetizing the Presidency for personal gain.
While emoluments violations against Trump are still going through the courts, the fine line between political office and business has become blurred again.
A new collection of Trump Hotels merchandise was launched last week depicting images of the White House, sparking more calls that the President is shamelessly profiteering from his position.
Dubbed the ‘Cherry Blossom Collection,’ the items also show other political symbols such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.
Now after a barrage of criticism, items depicting the White House have been quietly pulled.
They featured items like t-shirts and mugs emblazoned with an image of the White House and bearing the Trump brand name or the Trump International Hotel.
It led to more accusations of ethics violations.
"Our corrupt President’s hotel, in which he retains a conflicting financial interest, is selling products with the image of the White House on it. I’d say he’s monetizing the presidency again," tweeted Walter Shaub, former director of the Office of Government Ethics.
Items depicting other DC landmarks are still being offered for sale.
