Trump travel ban court hearing today

Friday, 07 Feb, 2017 0

A hearing later today will decide whether a controversial travel ban by US president Donald Trump should be reinstated.

The US justice department has defended the ban and is urging an appeals court to reinstate it in the interests of national security.

In a 15-page brief, it insists the move was a ‘lawful exercise of the president’s authority’ and not a ban on Muslims.

The executive order temporarily banned entry for all refugees and visitors from seven mainly Muslim countries – an, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

A federal judge had temporarily suspended the ban on Friday, saying it was too broad.

Trump then appealed, but his appeal was rejected.

"Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad," Trump tweeted yesterday.
