TSA expects 18 million Fourth of July holiday air travelers
Nearly 18 million travelers are expected to fly during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The TSA expects to screen around 17.7 million passengers with nearly three million on Friday.
That would beat 2019 numbers.
The TSA says they are ready to deal with the high volume of travelers and issued tips to avoid any long waits at security screening.
It advises eligible travelers to use TSA PreCheck lanes and keep guns and holiday fireworks at home.
“With attrition levels at historic lows, our increased employee retention has resulted in sufficient staffing levels to meet the increased passenger demand,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske
TSA targets aim for of 30 minutes or less in standard lanes and 10 minutes or less in TSA PreCheck expedited lanes.
“We met these standards over 98% of the time so far this year.”
American Airlines said it expects to fly nearly three million passengers between June 30 and July 4, with July 2 its busiest day.
About 43.2 million people are expected to take to the road for the July 4th holiday — up 4% from 2019, according to AAA.
The quietest days for traffic will be Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3.
