TSA PreCheck reaches five million enrolled fliers
The US Transportation Security Administration last week revealed it has now enrolled more than five million travelers in the PreCheck program.
TSA PreCheck now has more than 390 application centers nationwide, which includes locations at 44 airports, it said.
The first application center opened in December 2013 and there are now dedicated PreCheck expedited screening lanes at more than 180 airports.
"By growing the trusted traveler population, we help our officers focus on potential threats, which strengthen the security screening process and ultimately provide better security for all travellers," said acting TSA administrator Huban Gowadia.
"We will continue our efforts to further expand the TSA PreCheck program, with the ultimate goal of providing the most effective security in the most efficient way."
Following an in-person interview and payment of an enrolment fee, low risk passengers can leave on shoes, belts, light jackets and keep laptops and certain liquids in carry-on bags.
