Thompson and First Choice have ramped up their sustainable tourism team. First Choice Holidays’ former CSR department, headed up by Jane Ashton, will take on a Group remit and whilst continuing to support TUI UK on sustainability, will drive and report on Group Sustainable Development strategy and targets.

As a result several new appointments have been made to ensure a retained focus on sustainability for the First Choice and Thomson brands.

In an industry-first, a dedicated Sustainable Product Manager, Sean Owens, has been appointed to drive sustainability improvement and innovation across TUI UK’s overseas product. Having worked in Greece, he is also currently studying an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management at the International Centre for Responsible Tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University.

His new responsibilities will include working with hoteliers and suppliers overseas, to maximise sustainability awareness and ensure incorporation of best practice into their operations.

He will also use the Travelife Sustainability System to guide suppliers in their environmental and people management. Properties which meet certain sustainability criteria will be given a Travelife award, allowing consumers to make more informed decisions when booking their holidays. Working within the Innovation department, Sean’s goal is to ensure TUI UK leads the industry with pioneering sustainability products and policies into the future.

Ana Holden-Peters, Sustainability Communications Executive, has also recently joined TUI UK and is working with Marketing, Retail, Brochure Publishing, Internal Comms and Training to support colleague and customer communications about TUI UK’s sustainable development initiatives.

Ana joins TUI UK from an integrated marketing company, prior to which she gained an MSc in Management at University of Bath with a focus on Corporate Social Responsibility.
