TUI, easyJet & Thomas Cook report bookings surge
TUI said yesterday was its best day for bookings in over a month, Thomas Cook saw traffic to its website double after 3pm and EasyJet booked three times more flights and six times more holidays following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement of the roadmap out of lockdown.
And yet Mr Johnson made it clear that the earliest foreign holidays can resume is 17 May and even this isn’t guaranteed.
He said a new travel task force will report it findings on how and when it’s safe to lift the travel ban on 12 April. Minister will consider its report before confirming a restart date.
But Mr Johnson’s announcement in the Houses of Parliament yesterday has given travellers and the travel industry confidence that it is the Government’s intention to at least try to allow foreign holidays this summer.
