Tunisia declares state of emergency following explosion
Tunisia has declared a 30-day state of emergency and its capital Tunis is under curfew after a bus carrying presidential guards was blown up in the city, killing at least 12 people.
The attack comes just days after it was revealed that security officials had managed to thwart a second terrorist attack at the beach resort of Sousse, where 36 people including 30 British holidaymakers were slaughtered in June.
It is the second terrorist attack on the capital this year. In March, more than 20 people including 17 cruise ship passengers, were shot dead by terrorists at the city’s Bardo Museum.
No group has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack, which happened at a bus stop where the presidential guard picks up and drops off its staff.
The UK Foreign Office is warning against travel to Tunisia, which estimates it has lost a million tourists this year as a result of the terrorist attacks.
