Turkey-bound Brits unflustered by bomb blasts
Brits have become so blasé about about terrorism that Istanbul’s double bombing at the weekend has not elicited a single booking wobble, says Turkey specialist Metak Holidays.
The operator’s managing director Akin Ors said that he and his business partner steeled themselves for calls after Sunday’s attack which claimed the lives of 17 people in Gungoren, a residential area of the city, but noone called.
Said xx: “I think it’s the way the world is going that not one single person called. We have a large number of people going on two centre holidays that include Istanbul travelling out there every day but we did not hear from any of them. Perhaps it is also to do with the fact that tourists were not targeted as the blasts were in a residential area.â€
He added that he had spoken to a large number of agents and hoteliers in the city and all report business has been unaffected by the incident.
Meanwhile, The Turkish Culture and Tourism Office has issued a statement suggesting that that travellers intending to visit Istanbul in the near future check their holiday details with their travel agent or tour operator.
