Two children remain in hospital in a serious condition following a rollercoaster crash at a Scottish theme park.

M&D’s park near Strathclyde Park, Motherwell, remains closed after its Tsunami ride derailed and crashed on Sunday afternoon.

A 12-year-old boy remains in a serious condition with chest, abdominal and leg injuries and an 11-year-old boy suffered serious arm and hand injuries.

Police said four other boys, a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man, are all stable in hospital.

A 19-year-old woman was released from hospital after treatment.

An investigation is underway by police and the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokesman for M&D’s said: "As family-run business, our thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families. We wish everyone a full recovery.

"We are cooperating fully with Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on their joint investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident."
