Two cruise ships hit the rocks
It’s been a bad week for small cruise ships, as two have hit underwater rocks and had to be abandoned.
No passengers were hurt in either episode.
Hurtigruten’s 622-pasenger Kong Harald was sailing the coast of Norway and the 62-passenger National Geographic Sea Lion was on a visit to Costa Rica, industry trades and USA Today reported.
The Seatrade Insider said the Kong Harald grounded on the rock outside Norway’s Trollfjord and had to wait for the tide to rise before sailing to nearby Svolvaer. Hurtigruten has cancelled the vessel’s itinerary through March 12 so it can undergo repairs.
The Sea Lion sustained damage to its hull and one propeller but returned to Panama City on its own power.
