Two dead in airport heist shootout
A shootout at Santiago Airport, Chile has left two people dead in a failed airport heist.
Police said about 10 ‘heavily armed’ robbers tried to steal $32 million in cash aboard a Latam plane just arrived from Miami.
A shootout ensued with one alleged robber and a security guard killed.
“The brave action by DGAC (security) officials frustrated the robbery,” Interior Subsecretary Manuel Monsalve said.
He said the gang were well armed and highly organized.
A nearby Delta Air Lines plane was sprayed with bullets.
A DGAC official said no passengers were nearby during the airport heist attempt.
“It will undoubtedly lead us to revise processes, protocols that must be improved.”
