UK and Ireland cottage holiday ‘booking boom’

Friday, 07 Feb, 2007 0

An online guide to independent cottage agencies in the UK and Ireland has claimed a doubling in enquiries in January over last year.

The boss of Cottages.co.uk believes a range of issues such as interest rate rises, airport tax rises, US immigration controls, a strong euro and global warming are encouraging people to consider domestic breaks this year.

Managing director Jon Cockerill said there were widespread reports of growth in demand for rental properties. Cumbrian Cottages, Northumbrian Cottages and Yorkshire Cottages are all reporting record advance booking levels while properties in the New Forest are rapidly filling up.

He said: “With increasing financial pressures and greater awareness of the environmental impact of long haul travel, more people are spending leisure time closer to home.”

Annette Collins of Imagine Ireland (www.imagineireland.com), an agency featured on Cottages.co.uk, said: “Demand is greater than I have seen in a decade of selling holidays to Ireland. Our cottage guest numbers from the UK look set to rise from 28,000 in 2006 to over 50,000 in 2007.”

Users can research more than 10,000 properties at Cottages.co.uk. It refers visitors to over 120 specialist agencies for booking.
