UK city tours by iPod
A new operator specialising in MP3 tours of UK cities is looking for collaborators worldwide.
Tourist Tracks has this week launched two tours of London, to sit alongside an existing Cambridge programme.
Further tours, of Oxford and Brighton, are due to go live on April 1, with the city of Bath due to be launched before Easter.
The tours can be downloaded from www.tourist-tracks.com, and are also available on CD via mail order. In addition, tourist information centres in Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton and Bath will all be stocking pre-loaded players, which will be available for hire.
The tours have all been produced in partnership with the relevant tourist boards for each city – with commission payable to the local authority on each sale – and have all been checked by Blue Badge guides for accuracy. Tourist Tracks researches, writes and records all its own tours.
Founder and tours director Tim Gillett told TravelMole that the next move was to start on a serious marketing campaign – and, to that end, the company is now looking to enter distribution deals with tour operators, conference organisers and other travel industry partners.
Gillett said: “We believe this product will sit particularly well within the short-breaks and conference market. As well as being great value for money, the tours give the customer complete flexibility. There’s no need to keep up with a tour guide – if a particular shop, pub or tourist attraction takes your fancy, it’s just a question of pressing ‘pause’.
“Tourist Tracks is now looking to partner with firms that bring travellers to the UK in order to increase sales. We can offer bulk deals on CDs and will pay commission to operators who are able to sell downloaded tours from their sites.”
