UK flight cancellation rate at lowest level since 2019
The rate of flight cancellations from UK airports in the first half of 2023 is at its lowest since before the pandemic.
Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium found 6,665 flights departing UK airports were cancelled.
That equates to 1.53% of all scheduled departures.
The overall number of cancellations is actually up on 2022 but represents a smaller proportion of total flights scheduled.
However, the rate is still double that of H1 2019 when just 0.75% of UK scheduled departures were cancelled.
Last year more than one-third of UK flights were delayed.
Civil Aviation Authority data showed only 63% of flights were within 15 minutes of their scheduled time.
Birmingham was the worst airport based on the longest average delay per departing flight.
There were on average 30 minutes late in 2022.
During July and August 2023, Cirium says 186,220 flights are scheduled to depart UK airports.
This represents over 33.2 million seats.
