UK overseas visits climb to record high
UK overseas visits reached an all-time high in the year to the end of August, according to figures from the Office of National Statistics.
A total of 69.6 million Brits travelled overseas in the 12 months, up from 68.6 the previous year.
Visits to Europe and North America rose by 1% but travel to long-haul destinations rose by 7%, representing 1 in 7 of all trips made.
ABTA president Justin Fleming said: “Our love affair with foreign travel is in fine shape.
“Europe is still our number one destination but we are increasingly looking to visit other parts of the world and ABTA members are at the forefront of making these dreams a reality.”
