UK terror hunt moves to Australia
BRISBANE – The hunt for the people responsible for three botched car bomb attacks in Britain moved across the world today when a 27-year-old doctor was detained for questioning at Brisbane airport.
The man, believed to be an Australian resident working at the Gold Coast Hospital, was reported to be leaving the country with a one-way ticket.
Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said the man had not been on any Australian watch lists and the information had been obtained by British authorities over the weekend.
The detention of the man at Brisbane airport brings the number of people held in the investigation to eight. At least two of those arrested have been working as doctors in the UK.
One of the doctors detained by police in the UK obtained his medical degree in Jordan, and the other qualified in Baghdad.
Security in Britain has been stepped up with extra police patrols and vehicle searches taking place at airports and transport hubs.
