UK tourist critical after “jungle-surfing” plunge
A British tourist is reportedly fighting for her life after being injured in a “jungle-surfing” accident in the Australian rainforest.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the 24-year-old woman from Oxford suffered serious injuries after falling 65 feet from a high-wire in the jungle canopy at Cape Tribulation, Queensland. The woman was reportedly airlifted to hospital in Cairns, where she is now reported to be in a critical condition.
The Telegraph describes jungle surfing as involving “moving along a series of connected steel cables strung between five platforms, which at their highest are 90 feet above the ground”.
The company operating the attraction says it offers participants the chance to “feel like Tarzan or Jane” as they swing through the forest.
Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours’ literature reportedly states: “Your safety is covered, with all construction and equipment meeting the highest standards and all platforms manned by highly-trained climbing and abseil masters.”
