More visitors to the UK want to take a tour of a Welsh castle than see where the Queen lives, according to a new VisitBritain survey.
The agency polled 10,000 foreign tourists, asking them what they would most like to do out of 18 choices when they come to Britain.
Some 34%, the highest chunk, said they fancied a wonder around a historic castle in the Land of Song with 32% then picking Buckingham Palace as their most hotly anticipated tourist stop.
Next down the list came spending a night in a Scottish castle (29.1%), watching the sun rise at Stonehenge (28.9%), watching a premier league football match (19%) and shopping in Harrods (19%).
The survey also focused on nationality and each one’s preferences, finding South Koreans keen on Buck House (25%) and then seeing any Harry Potter location (18%) whilst the Poles, Russians, Italians and Germans were the most excited about touring the Welsh castles. Over half (54%) of the Russians, however, chose Liz’s London pad as their number one must-see.
Some 40% of the Swedes questions voted for the night in the Scottish castle, as did 39% of Italians and 35% of Americans and it was the Egyptians (32%) who were most excited about watching the football.
