United Airlines brings back pre boarding for families with young kids

United Airlines is bringing back the option for early boarding for families with young children.

From February 15, families with children age two and under can be fast tracked to their seats ahead of the rush for general boarding and the inevitable fight for overhead bin space.

United had previously ended this when it changed its boarding procedures back in April 2012.

"It takes a little bit of the stress out of the travel situation. Some things are just the right thing to do," Sandra Pineau-Boddison, United’s senior vice president of customers told the AP.

Boarding policies vary in the US, with airlines keen to reward loyal members with early boarding while trying to ensure the whole boarding process is as seamless as possible an does not impact punctuality.

American Airlines allows families with children to board first on request only, and Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines also offers a ‘family first’ option.

Most other carriers, such as JetBlue and Virgin America, prioritize families once first class passengers and elite members have taken their seats.
