United Airlines offering new priority boarding perk for a fee
United Airlines is rolling out yet another fee for passengers seeking to escape the mad scramble for overhead bag space.
United is offering economy fliers a new United Airlines perk, allowing them to board early.
For an eaxtra fee starting at $9, the priority boarding will put the customer into United’s boarding group 2, which means they can board along with Gold and Silver tier frequent fliers but well ahead of passengers in main economy.
United says it will limit sales of the perk so as to not overload the boarding group
"Its availability is closely controlled based on flight, date, time of day and day-of-week restrictions. We do not anticipate any significant impact on the current boarding group size," the airline said.
United said it won’t be available for customers buying Basic Economy fares.
The service is similar to United’s Premier Access upgrade that includes priority boarding and priority TSA security screen which starts at $15.
The new perk is being targeted at customers who already have TSA PreCheck and just want the option of getting to their seat quicker, United said.
